Better Homes and Gardens 1960
Pecan Crispies (with minor alterations)
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter (didn’t have shortening, so used 1/2 cup margarine and 1/2 cup butter)
2-1/2 cups brown sugar (used dark brown with disconcerting chunks of molasses which actually turned out fortuitously delicious)
2 eggs
2-1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup (actually closer to 2 or maybe more…) chopped pecans
Cream shortening (er…margarine), butter and sugar, add eggs, beat well. Sift dry ingredients, add to creamed mixture. Add nuts. Drop from teaspoon about 2 inches apart onto greased cookie sheet. Bake in 350 degree oven 12 to 15 minutes. Makes 5 dozen. Well. Less than that because Terry dropped more like 2 tablespoons…but they made big ol’ flat crsipy thangs that were TASTY.
